Addie "Ida Boyce and August Wold

Former Pioneer Lady Summoned by Death Mrs. Addie Greathouse is called at home in Anacortes ­ Age 74 years

San Juan Island acquaintances of Mrs. Addie Greathouse of Anacortes, were saddened the first of the week to learn of her death which occurred Sunday at her home after an illness of several months following a stroke. At time of death she was 74 years old.

Mrs. Greathouse, to the older residents of the Island, will be remembered as Mrs. August Wold, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. V. Boyce, early day pioneers of San Juan county.

Mrs. (Addie Boyce) Greathouse was born on San Juan Island, October 1, 1868, where she grew to womanhood and later became the bride of Mr. August Wold, a resident of the Island for many years. Following Mr. Wold's death she moved to Anacortes and later married Mr. Greathouse where her home was maintained for several years.

She leaves to mourn her loss, one son, August Wold, Jr., of Seattle, and two grand-children; also two brothers William Boyce of Seattle, and Steve Boyce of Friday Harbor; and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Sweeney of Seattle, and Mrs. Donald Erickson of Friday Harbor.

The funeral was held this (Wednesday) afternoon from the Friday Harbor Presbyterian church, with Rev. Sam McIvor conducting the services. Burial was in the family plot in the Valley cemetery.

Rebekah graveside services were observed by San Juan Rebekah Lodge, of which deceased was a member for many years.

John E. Greathouse


Sedro Valley resident John E. Greathouse died at United General Hospital Sunday July 16, 1972. Mr. Greathouse was born June 22, 1885 at Spring Valley, Arkansas. Mr. Greathouse was a retired Carpenter.

Mr. Greathouse is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rosalie Claghern, of Arlington and Eleanore Balch, of Tacoma. He is also survived by one son, Frank G. Greathouse, one sister-in-law, Laura Davis, five grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Lemley's Chapel , July 19, 1972 at 1:30, and is interred at Sedro Wooley Cemetary.
