George Miller Boice

George Miller Boice, 67, died in his home on February 29, 2012, after a brief but tenacious battle with cancer.
Born in Great Barrington, Mass., George grew up in Charlotte where he graduated from East Mecklenburg High School. He went to work for Sears from which he retired after 40 years.

After retiring, George had more time to bowl, hang out with his friends and devote himself to restoring a 1956 Thunderbird to its original condition. Whether driving or working on them, he inherited a love of cars from his father, who worked for Ford Motor Co. George enjoyed taking road trips through the Arizona deserts and to Myrtle Beach, where he spent many happy hours deep sea fishing.

George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joanne Rollins Boice; sons Jon Daniel Boice (Sharon Boice) of Harrisburg and Erik Miller Boice of Mint Hill; mother Esther Philo Boice of Harrisburg; siblings F. Leigh Boice and Sidney Boice Tomberlin (Randy Tomberlin) of Charlotte; grandchildren Kristin Elizabeth Boice, Erika Marie Boice, Michael M. Henson and Miller Ryan Boice; and sister-in-law Barbara Parker (Craig Parker).

He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Miller Boice, and daughter Elizabeth Marie Boice.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 2, and the funeral will be at noon on Saturday, March 2, at McEwen Funeral Services, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, which will be handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care.
