Family News Update!
The recent connection to the family of Jonathan Boice jr., has lead to the source of David Stickles claim in 1852 as to "how" he was "intimately acquainted" to our John Boice.

I believe that I have now found the infamous "Stickles" connection that I have been looking for. As mentioned before, My great great great grandfather, John Boice, who was appearently the first cousin to the above mentioned Jonathan Boice jr., made a bounty land claim for his service in the war of 1812, where a man named "David Stickles" testified on his behalf to be an "intimate acquaintance" to our John Boice in 1852. David Stickles and Mary Etta Stickles were in fact cousins!

It appears that David Stickles Grandfather and Mary Etta Stickles great grandfather were brothers!

David Stickles was the son of Johannes Stickel and Janetje Pulver:

"Intimately acquainted" to John Boice

The following record profiles the birth and baptism of David Stickles brother, Nicholas:

Baptism Records of the Gallatin Reformed Church: Gallatinville Gallatin Reformed Church 1748-1899

Father: Johannes Stickel
Mother: Janetje Pulver

Child: Nicolaus
Sponsor: Nickolaus Stickel; Catharina Kieffer
Birth Date: 01 Nov 1786

The sponsors for the above record, Nicholas Stickel and Catharina Kieffer, were the parents of Johnannes Stickel.

On the same date, and coincedentally at the same church, we find the following record for the birth and baptism of Friedrich Stickles, grandfather of Mary Etta Stickles who married Jonathan Boice jr.:

Baptism Records of the Gallatin Reformed Church: Gallatinville Gallatin Reformed Church 1748-1899

Baptism Date: 12 Nov 1786
Father: Friedrich Stickel
Mother: Elizabeth Hamel
Item #: 934
Child: Friedrich
Sponsor: Friedrich Ham; Maritje Schmit
Birth Date: 01 Nov 1786

The above noted Friedrich Stickel would later marry Elisabeth Snyder, who would become the Parents of Edward Stickel who married Mary Rossman. As we have already identified, Edward and Mary were the parents of Mary Etta Stickles, who married Jonathan Boice Jr. (See photo at upper right)

While I have not yet been able to find the actual baptism records, due to the dates and the relative locations at the same time above for both records, I believe that Johannes Stickles, father of David Stickles, was the brother to the above noted Freidrich Stickles, who married Elisabeth Hamel. This would make Friedrich and Johannes' parents, Nicholas Stickles and Catharina Kiefer.

Additionally, we find a very interesting, further connection to the Buys / Boice families from this Nicholas Stickles and Catharina Kiefer, through the following records:

St Paul's (Zion's) Lutheran Church of Red Hook: 1730-1904
Location: Town of Red Hook, Dutchess County --- Denomination: Lutheran

Parents: Joh: Kreiseller; Susanna Stikkel
Sponsors: Nicklas Stikkel, & wife; Catharina Kiefer
Source: Baptismal Record of St Paul's (Zion's) Lutheran Church, Red Hook

Nicholas Stickel who married Catharina Kiefer was the brother to the above noted Susanna Stickel.
Now, look at the next two records:

Further:

Baptism Record of Reformed Church: Claverack, (Columbia County) Reformed Church 1727-1899

Baptism Date: 14 Nov 1802
Father: Willem Link
Mother: Maria Kilmer
Item #: 3765
Child: Benjamin
Sponsor: Johannes Kreisler; Anatje Reyffenberger
The above sponsor, Johannes Kreislers' Parents were: Johannes Kruysselaer and Susanna Stickel
Birth Date: 19 Oct 1802

Incidentally, the above noted William Kilmer was noted as paying rent on Rudolph Buys' farm sourced from the following record:

Settlers and Residents in the town of Livingston Vol. 3 Part 1 1710 - 1899." Arthur C. M. Kelly,
Kelly, 1 Feb. 1978.
The record book states the following:

Page. 49, List entry: Rudolph Bies appeared on the Livingston Account Book for 1767-1769,
and is listing as paying rent in the form of 24 bushels of wheat, and 4 hens.

The record which appears just below the above entry, dated 1767-1769, states that William (Linck), also paid rent on the above (Rudolph Buys) farm, between 1770-1784.

We have without question identified the Rossman / Boice Connection (Click Here) through the maternal ancestors of Mary Etta Stickles. And through the above records, can surely establish the Stickels / Boice connection through the paternal ancestors of Mary Etta Stickles, wife of Jonathan Boice jr.

I now sincerely believe that through the evidence of both the Rossman and Stickles "PROVEN" connections to both families, we can surely see that this David Stickels, who claimed he was "intimately acquainted" to our John Boice, was in fact a relative. This is also supported by the fact that Thomas Coons, John Boice's uncle was also noted as giving his testimony on behalf of John Boice as an "intimate acquaintence" for the same bounty Land claim made in 1852.

In summary, I conclude that Jonathan Boice, son of Peter Buys and Lena (Eleanor) Smith, was in fact the father of Jonathan Boice jr. who married Mary Etta Stickles.

This is a photo comparison that I made on 03-19-2003, featuring the Boice's.
